How rankings work

Category rankings blend recent activity with rating quality. Activity carries 60% of the result and rating evidence carries 40%. There is no paid placement, and there never will be.

Ranking boards

Every category has an All board, plus separate Free and Paid boards. The All board is a combined overview. Free and Paid rankings are calculated independently, so a free download is not treated as equivalent to a purchase when apps compete for position.

A rank always belongs to its board: for example, #1 Paid in Utilities. Each board has its own eligibility pool and minimum activity requirement, and its URL can be shared directly.

Activity

Download activity is scaled logarithmically, so ten times the downloads is not ten times the score. Volume matters, but volume alone does not win.

Repeat downloads from the same person for the same app on the same day count once toward ranking. The visible download total still records every download.

Rating evidence

Ratings are weighted by confidence. A handful of five-star reviews will not outrank a large body of slightly lower ratings simply because the small sample has a higher average.

Reviews from people who bought an app count more. For free apps, a recorded download is treated as the equivalent evidence, so free software is not penalized for having no purchase record.

Eligibility and seasons

An app needs at least 10 downloads or 3 reviews in the period before it can be ranked. A board needs at least 5 eligible apps before its leaderboard appears; All, Free, and Paid apply that threshold independently.

Rankings run in monthly seasons. Results reset as a new month begins, and completed season standings are archived so earlier results do not shift later.

Ranking is imperfect and will be tuned as the catalogue grows. If you believe your app is ranked incorrectly, email support@6ortal.com.
